Restorative & YIN Yoga Teacher
About Me
Ashley Koons (they/them) is a Certified Yoga Teacher, dog parent, queer non-binary feminist, travel enthusiast, and wizard book lover. They first came to yoga asana in their early 20s and have continued to integrate yoga philosophy and asana into their every day life.
Ashley enjoys exploring new places, reading books involving magic, drinking caffeine (an oat milk cortado to be exact), playing board games with their partner and walking in nature with her their two fluffy dogs. Ashley recently became a parent to a small human and is interested in exploring ways in which yoga can influence and support life transitions of all kinds.
Ashley is so grateful for this ancient and sacred practice from India and would like to offer gratitude to all of the teachers who have helped share their knowledge along this path.
What IS Restorative Yoga?
Restorative Yoga is a rest practice. It is a slow, gentle and introspective style of yoga that emphasizes grounded postures held for long periods of time. In each pose the body is supported by the use of bolsters, blocks, and blankets so the practitioner can sink into the present moment.
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced, meditative practice that focuses on holding passive poses for several minutes to target the deep connective tissues and fascia. This unique approach blends the Indian yogic focus on breath and asana with the Chinese Taoist concept of Qi, using physical stillness to harmonize the flow of energy through the body's meridians.
Both of these styles of yoga asana are suitable for people of all ages and fitness abilities, including those who have injuries or live with a chronic illness. They are also suitable for pregnant and post partum people.
Ashley believes Yoga is for all people in all bodies, and strives to offer an inclusive and welcoming environment. Their goal is to offer body positive classes that are free from diet-culture language and patriarchal hierarchies. Let’s meet our bodies where they are today with curiosity, compassion and respect.
Rest is a birthright. All beings deserve rest. We do not need to earn our rest.
